Members Beware: Chaturbate Edition

It has come to my attention recently that more and more cam sites are becoming straight up criminal hotspots. Whether it's sex trafficking, love scams, internet fraud or money laundering. The two main sites that I utilized are fast becoming absolute dumpster fires. Today, I'm going to discuss everything wrong with Chaturbate.

First off, I've probably utilized Chaturbate for well over 10 years. Never really had any issues with the site until a recent interaction I had with a model who basically committed internet fraud and didn't even bat an eyelash while doing it. I didn't think anything of it, until I tried reaching out to Chaturbate support about it. Then it all became very clear.

You see, years ago, Chaturbate used to have a refund policy if a model didn't perform as expected, because if you paid for something on their tip menu and they didn't do it, you could simply request a refund. Not anymore. This is a screenshot of what I can only assume is their updated "tip" policy, which basically states, any and all tips by members towards a cam model are now considered "gratuity" and not actually a transaction of money for services rendered.

This is Chaturbate's attempt at excusing themselves from having to investigate any type of criminal activity on their site. They even went as far as to inform me that despite putting in this "tips are gratuity" into their site policies. However, they opted out of informing models that they can no longer request tips verbally or through tip menus. I mean, if tips are gratuity, then why do they have tip menus for services? Basically, Chaturbate wants their cake and to eat it too.

Just one problem. Almost every country has anti-consumer laws in place to prevent exactly this sort of behavior from a company or organization. For instance, "Consumer Protection Laws: Laws like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act ban unfair or deceptive business practices. A company cannot legally override these rules just by writing a hidden clause in their terms."

Granted, their policies are not deceptive, but they don't need to be deceptive if they allow the law to be broken, cause then they are liable. Since Chaturbate doesn't regulate model activity or enforce similar regulations on models, this falls into the next issue, such as "quid pro quo" because the site is only enforcing protection for models and not members. Chaturbate can't simply state in their policies that tips are gratuity while at the same time allow models to utilize tip menus. That in itself is deceptive business practice.

Anyways, for those of you who do perhaps utilize Chaturbate and this could be true of other sites if not all sites since they all seem to work together these days. Just do yourself a favor and check your site's policies for similar bad practices. As for me, I'm going to accept a ban from Chaturbate and have my financial institution perform a chargeback. One, I don't care if Chaturbate bans me and two, chargebacks give those companies bad credit ratings. So in my eyes, it's a win/win.

Comments

  • Chaturbate sent me one last email regarding their request to the model if they are willing to refund the tokens and the model denied it. So, as you can see, Chaturbate is allowing models to commit internet fraud and I contacted my financial institution to conduct 3 separate chargebacks in reference to this model and the fraud committed.

I'm sure I'll get banned from Chaturbate, but if this is how they operate, I don't see them doing very well in the near future. Not having some sort of scam / fraud investigation in place and just stating all tips are gratuity while allowing models to use tip menus is 100% deceptive business practice.

I'm not saying people shouldn't use the site if they like it, but just be aware of the fact all your tips are gratuity and Chaturbate will not issue refunds on any tokens spent on models.
  • I was trying to write a proper reply, but I got stuck because I am not sure what actually happened. You tipped from the tip menu, and then what? She did not do it at all, she did something different, she went offline? No need to name her, I just want to understand the situation before I say anything.
  • The model in question is moonligt_iris from Chaturbate. I already wrote a review on her which you replied to. As for Chaturbate, they were refusing to refund me the credits, so I told them everything is being sent to my financial institution as well as the Better Business Bureau. At that point, they decided to "escalate" my ticket and wouldn't you know it, they "magically" refunded me the credits. Seriously, just refund the credits instead of playing devil's advocate. They absolutely knew their tip policy + models using tip menus was a fucking contradiction, yet they felt they did nothing wrong. Guess now that they decided to refund the credits, they realized how fucking stupid they are. Some of the camsites should be shutdown for fraud and corruption among other issues.

Update: I got my $240 back and Chaturbate banned my account. I was expecting that and honestly, I take this as a win/win for me as I'll never use that corrupt criminal site again.

Ah, ok. I didn't realize it was that model. Did they refund you the tokens you tipped for the domi show, or the total tokens you purchased in the package? Most sites close the account if they need to refund a transaction at the card-processing level instead of refunding the on-site currency (tokens/credits). Banks and card processors treat adult sites differently, and a long record of refunds can cause the site to lose its processor. So, if they end up in a situation where they need to refund real money to a user, they consider the user "dangerous" and ban him to avoid a repeat.
Not exactly the same thing, but I got banned from XLoveCam and Streamate because I haven't bought credits in many months. The reason is that their card processors demand dormant accounts with a valid credit card on file to be purged after x months. XLoveCam told me to create a new account. Streamate started with an inquiry and a full card check to reinstate my account. They were just following rules that only apply to adult sites. I never had this problem with mainstream sites/apps like Uber or Amazon.
  • The thing is, I never request refunds, because I rarely ever have issues. This particular model is 100% a scammer or she's 100% horrible at her job. Either way, she should be banned from Chaturbate and judging by the number of accounts she's utilized, I wouldn't be surprised if she has been banned before.

As for Chaturbate, it's their own fault for their conflicting policy and what they allow models to do. To be completely honest, I'm positive they added that policy after I started using the site cause they used to give credit refunds without any hassle. So I think they just decided to go the easy route and claim ignorance of the matter. While that is certainly in their right to do, not enforcing a similar good faith policy for models just allows models to commit fraud. I informed Chaturbate of this, which is why I did the chargeback. I don't have a problem with their policy, but if they forced models to accept gratuity tips instead of utilizing tip menus, the models and the site would go out of business. So in essence, Chaturbate wanted their cake and to eat it too and I don't support that shit.
